Baby Cribs that Pass the Test of Time

I think that any baby crib should be good enough to last for years and years to come, not necessarily because you intend to keep them for that long, but because if they’re built to last, they’re generally pretty safe. I think the goal of any parent is the keep their baby safe and free from harm, I think this overall safety should begin with their baby crib. If you agree with me please continue reading this article and I will give you some basic tips on how to find baby cribs that will pass the test of time.

I think one of the determining factors in the quality of baby cribs is the price tag. I’m a strong believer in the old saying you get what you pay for; if you buy the cheapest crib you can find your likely have the lowest quality out there. This means that you are, intentionally or unintentionally, placing your baby at risk to save a little money. I would suggest against this; what are a couple hundred bucks going to matter in a year or two from now.

Another thing to bear in mind is the type of crib you get; one type that you are likely to encounter as you look around for a new baby crib is drop side crib. These cribs allow you to lower one or both sides of the baby cribs walls to pick up the baby. I mention these because the CPSC recently issued a safety warning on these kinds of cribs after doing a study on them. You may want to bear this in mind if you are considering a drop side crib and if safety is your number one concern go with a stationary crib instead.

Another thing that you will want to watch out for is very flimsy mattresses. These have been found to also be unsafe and should be avoided. These are often the lowest priced mattresses usually made out of simple foam. In order to guarantee maximum safety you will need a firm mattress that does not bend easily.

In summary: don’t be so concerned with saving a few dollars that you get a bad quality baby crib. Drop side cribs, while convenient, can present a safety risk to your child so use with caution. Be sure to get a firm mattress for maximum safety.
